Hunger Games Party
My friend Hannah hosted a Hunger Games party and persuaded me to read the book and come to the party. I really wanted to go to the party so I went ahead and got the audio book and Jake and I listened to it together. I loved the audio book because I could work on my design work at the same time. I'm all about multi-tasking. Plus, since the book is geared towards younger readers, it was easy to listen to.
After listening to the entire book, Jake and I were hooked into the characters and the story. We're eagerly waiting to listen to the next two books in the series.
The Hunger Games party was so much fun. Costumes were encouraged and food was inspired by the book. I found an awesome bread recipe on YouTube for Rue's district 11 bread. I want to make this again, it was so yummy. Check out the rest of the spread.
I went as the main character, Katniss. It was an easy costume that I could do very inexpensively and quickly. I found a leather jacket at GoodWill, borrowed some boots and managed to create her famous sideways braid. I took Reece with me to the party since she wanted to get capitol pink hair sprayed in. Most of the other ladies dressed as the capitol people with extravagant vintage outfits and colored hair. They looked fabulous, I was quite jealous. Plus, once we got to the theater, people wanted their picture taken with them.
Hannah had a "reaping" where chosen guests could pull prizes from the survival basket. I came away with some awesome district nail polish. Hannah won the best costume contest, she looked perfect. Then off to the theater in La Costa where we sat in leather recliners and had waiters wait on us. This was my first experience in the upscale theater, and I loved it. The movie was good, very true to the book. However, it had to cover a lot in the 2.5 hours so it felt rushed to me, but it was still entertaining. Thank you Hannah for hosting an awesome party and making me read the book.
